Intro

Loving Kindness Social work is committed to empowering adults, remain in the drivers seat and plan ahead for their life.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is being empowered and putting a plan in place to uphold your human rights, including healthcare and life decisions to reduce the risk of harm and exploitation due to circumstances in situations that increase vulnerability and risk.

What is Adult Abuse?

The older population in Ireland is growing and will soon be the largest population in need of supportive services.

In understanding adult abuse, it is recognised that when a person’s rights, independence, and dignity are not valued and respected, this may be intentional, or a result of a lack of information,  or failure to respond appropriately. Notwithstanding this, violating the rights of adults with a disability and older adults is abuse. Adults can be affected by abuse at different times in their lives, however adults living with physical and intellectual disability, and older adults due to age and stage of life, may find themselves at greater risk of adult abuse, hence the need to safeguard and protect adults at risk through planning ahead, care planning, empowerment and supporting adults at risk retain and regain autonomy over their life choices.

There are a significant number of adult abuses including:

  • Physical
  • Financial
  • Emotional, Verbal and Psychological
  • Neglect and Acts of Omission
  • Sexual
  • Online
  • Organisational and Institutional abuse
  • Coercive
  • Discrimination

Loving Kindness was created to support and empower adults with a disability and older adults to safeguard and plan their future as their circumstances in situations, health needs, age, and stage of life change. Through informed decision-making, respecting and hearing the will and preference of the adult, we empower you to thrive to your full capacity and live life on your terms.
